THE CHALLENGE
Plastic waste is clogging rivers and canals.
Bangladesh is the biggest delta in the world, where water flows from the Himalaya to the ocean. In the metropolitan area of Dhaka, with around 30 million people, Oceanbound is working to stop plastic waste. Clogged rivers and canals contribute to flooding in the city.

Oceanbound and the Dutch Water Sector are teaming up with Dhaka North City Corporation to clean up the city, improve drainage and reduce flooding.

WATER HYACINTH
Restoring flow and creating value.
Bangladesh rivers and canals are blocked by water hyacinths, restricting the flow of water, contributing to the spread of dengue fever and trapping plastic waste. Oceanbound’s project approach is to process water hyacinths into bio-char and bio-gas, while recovered plastic is processed into bio-fuels.
