Project

Oceanbound and the Dutch Water Sector are teaming up with Dhaka North City Corporation to clean up the city, to improve the drainage and reduce the flooding. We will intercept the waste from the city in the canals and rivers with our Oceanbound barriers.

Plastic waste in cities

Background

Bangladesh is the biggest river delta in the world. The water flows from the Himalaya to the ocean. It is also one of the most polluted river deltas in the world. Plastic waste is clogging the rivers and canals resulting in the flooding of the cities.

Cooperation

Oceanbound Bangladesh is owned and operated by Bangladesh entrepreneurs and staff. Ourprojects in Dhaka are sponsored by businesses with a local footprint and The Dutch Embassy helps to coordinate.

Several Universities research and gather knowledge in the classification of waste. Local recyclers recyclethe plastic waste into new products. Together with Red Orange awareness campaigns aredesigned to achieve zero waste in the canals and rivers.
