Oceanbound Guatemala
Together with Guatemalan NGO Fundaeco we are working to stop Ocean Bound Plastic from reaching the Pacific Ocean.
Project
We have designed, supplied and installed an Oceanbound Barrier in the Rio Las Escobas in the forest areas around Puerto Barrios.
Background
The Rio Las Escobas is one of the main rivers flowing into the Rio Motagua. The heavily polluted river Rio Motagua is flowing from the capital Guatemala City into the Pacific Ocean.
Cooperation
We teamed up with Guatemalan NGO Fundaeco, who is operating the barriers and performs awareness campaigns in these relatively low populated areas to prevent the waste from being thrown in the rivers and environment. The barrier materials have been supplied by geosynthetics company Huesker from Germany.
